Save Our Trail
The Yamhelas-Westsider Trail is at risk of being removed and sold by Yamhill County Commissioners. Speak up to protect our public land and this 17-mile rail-to-trail project that connects McMinnville, Carlton, Yamhill, & Gaston.
About the Yamhelas-Westsider Trail
The Yamhelas-Westsider Trail is a 17-mile multi-use path that transforms an abandoned rail line into a safe and scenic route connecting the communities of McMinnville, Carlton, Yamhill, Cove Orchard, and Gaston - with a potential future extension to Hagg Lake and beyond. Designed for walking, biking, horseback riding, and more, the trail will boost local businesses, support agritourism, promote outdoor recreation, and preserve a vital public corridor that reflects Yamhill County’s heritage while building a healthier, more connected future.

What's happening to the trail?
October 2, 2025 - Yamhill County Commissioners directed staff to repeal ordinance 880 and remove the Yamhelas-Westsider Trail from the county transportation plan. If approved, this action will cancel the project and remove protection of this publicly-owned land - putting it at risk of being sold off and lost forever to future generations.
December 4, 2025 - The matter will come before the Yamhill County Planning Commission for public hearing. It is essential that your voice be heard at this meeting through petition, letter, and in-person testimony.
December 18, 2025? - Following the Planning Commission hearing, the matter will return to the County Board of Commissioners for a final hearing and vote. This will be the public's last opportunity to protect our public land and a multi-use trail that will benefit our county for generations to come.
